This week in DAOs - June 30, 2022
A roundup of the most exciting developments in the DAO space.
🎙 In the latest episode of DAO or Never we are joined by Zak Robinson, Digital Content Producer at Protocol Labs. Zak is passionate about exploring more equitable models for creative work and the potential of web3 to empower creative communities. If you are a creative, or want to know more about how creatives can grow in the DAO world, tune in. Available on Apple and Spotify.
🧪 Congratulations to biotech protocol Molecule DAO on your $12.7 seed raise. The bigger takeaway though is the continuing trend of traditional players, in this case Northpond Ventures, embracing web3 and what the DAO structure brings to the table. WAGSTW (We’re All Gonna Save The World)
🗳 Last week on our podcast we spoke about growth in DAOs and DAO activity. Over the past few weeks, multiple instances (Merit Circle DAO and Solend) have challenged traditional power structures. Both themes resurfaced in a recent MakerDAO proposal. When members were asked to approved the addition of a growth and oversight unit, voter turnout was atypically high. Though the vote was neck-and-neck for a while, redelegations shifted the outcome in the final hours, and ultimately the masses rejected a proposal that they found to be expensive and lacking accountability. Put another way, individuals outvoted the institutions. Read the rundown from GFX Labs.
🧱 Thanks to Gnosis Guild for this refresher on what DAOs mean by “composability”. It’s the ability to combine existing components into something new through an ecosystem of apps and open networks. The byproducts: deep talent, inspired integration, and increased interoperability.
🏀 How I Made It: From Pro Baller to Master of DAOs - David Morris tells the story of Gnosis Guild co-founder Auryn Macmillan. It’s a story about the traits that have made Macmillan a star; his winding road to DAOs; and advice on finding one’s place in web3.
🐻 Bear Eat Moloch - It’s easy (or difficult) to explain the DAO culture to newcomers. Rather than tell you what it means to be in a DAO, feel it for yourself in Bear Eat Moloch, an NFT-facilitated bootleg zine / ode to community / token of gratitude crafted by a DAOhaus insider.
